Like stray dogs, these 4 legged hairy perpetrators of mass Eucalyptus destruction run the gauntlet of authorities on a daily basis. Having inspected the recycling scheme in this street in Mitcham, it moves its focus to the next food source: an available Gum tree.
This one, having spotted me as the animal paparazzi, makes a run for a deciduous tree instead and instantly regrets it. Having aimed too low, he/she makes a run for it….
These koalas must be stopped so we can continue to destroy their habitat for our urban infill….
But seriously: this is an amazing story that less than 5kms from Adelaide’s city centre this very large koala was in no hurry and would not be hurried. It raises serious issues in regards to urban habitat, our native belts of Eucalyptus trees and how we can co-exist with these amazing, if not a bit slow, creatures.
